A Global Dialogue on Open Source AI

As part of OSI’s Open Source AI Program, the Open Source AI Salons bring together leaders and practitioners from academia, industry, government, civil society, and the open source community.

These discussions explore the impact of the Open Source AI Definition and its practical application across sectors, while creating space for participants to share perspectives, test ideas, and identify areas of consensus and disagreement.

The salons are designed as small, substantive conversations, rather than traditional conference sessions. Salon discussions are held under the Chatham House Rule, creating space for participants to exchange ideas openly and candidly.

Co-host a Salon

OSI is seeking partners around the world to co-host Open Source AI Salons throughout 2027. Co-hosting a salon is an opportunity to bring together a diverse group of local and international voices to engage in meaningful discussion about the future of Open Source AI.

As a co-host, you can:

  • Bring your community into the conversation: Convene researchers, developers, policymakers, industry leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders from your region or sector.
  • Shape the discussion: Help identify the questions and perspectives that are most relevant to your community and contribute to discussions about the future of the Open Source AI Definition.
  • Connect with a global network: Build relationships with participants and other organizations working on Open Source AI around the world.
  • Create space for collaboration: Facilitate candid, cross-sector conversations that can surface new ideas, identify areas of agreement, and highlight challenges that need further attention.

OSI works with co-hosts to develop the format, identify relevant participants, and shape the discussion around the needs of each community.
