Open Source Hong Kong Becomes an OSI Affiliate Member

PALO ALTO, Calif. - May 14, 2019 ​ - The Open Source Initiative (OSI), the founding organization of the open source software movement, is excited to announce the Affiliate Membership of the Open Source Hong Kong (OSHK). For ten years OSHK has worked across Asia to support open source communities, foster open source development, and increase the use of open source software, their recent OSI Membership highlights both organizations' desires to collaborate across communities.

Powering Potential Expands to Peru

The Open Source Initiative’s first African Affiliate, Powering Potential Inc. (PPI), is pleased to announce a pilot program expansion in Peru of their award-winning solar-powered Raspberry Pi computer labs already enhancing education throughout rural Tanzania, Africa. PPI’s pilot project is placing a computing lab at the San Francisco Rio Itaya School, located in the Amazon region of Iquitos, Peru.

Run-off Election Results

After a tie in the 2019 OSI Board of Directors election between Christine Hall, and Mariatta Wijaya, a run-off election was required. The run-off election ran from March 18th, through March 25th, 2019, resulting in a victory for Christine Hall, by a slim margin of only two votes.

Software Freedom Conservancy Becomes an Open Source Initiative Affiliate Member

Palo Alto, CA - March 14, 2019The Software Freedom Conservancy joins long list of Open Source Initiative Affiliate Members

The Open Source Initiative (OSI), the founding organization of the open source software movement, is excited to announce the Affiliate Membership of the Software Freedom Conservancy. "Conservancy", a public charity, that works to promote, improve, develop, and defend free and open source projects. Conservancy provides a home and infrastructure for projects such as Git, Godot Engine, Inkscape, Outreachy, Samba, and many more. Conservancy's support allows free and open source software developers to focus on what they do best—writing and improving code for the general public—while Conservancy takes care of the projects' needs that do not relate directly to software development and documentation.
